FAQ
Deck permit questions, answered.
How much do deck permit drawings cost?
From $1,000 for a simple attached deck, $1,100 for an elevated deck with guards and stairs, and $1,600 for multi-level or ravine/TRCA jobs. A deck with a pergola starts at $1,400. Fees exclude HST, municipal permit fees, survey and structural engineering. See the full fee ranges.
Do I need a permit for my deck in Ontario?
Generally yes once the deck is raised above a certain height above grade, attached to the house, or over a set area — and the exact trigger varies by municipality. Send us the size and height and we'll tell you whether you need one before you pay for anything.
How long does it take?
1–2 weeks for a permit-ready set. Municipal review time is on top and varies by city. We answer every review comment on the original scope at no extra cost.
What if my deck doesn't meet the setbacks?
We check zoning — setbacks, lot coverage and height — before drawing, so you find out early. If you need relief, we prepare the minor variance / Committee of Adjustment package for $1,000, excluding the municipal application fee.
Which cities do you serve?
We work across Ontario, with most projects in Toronto and the GTA. Site measurement and as-built drawings are part of every project.
